NJ company develops radiation badges

(03/18/03) MIDDLESEX - A Middlesex company is at the forefront in the war against terror. J.P. Laboratories has developed a small device that can detect if someone was exposed to radiation. Although the badge cannot prevent radiation, it can save someone's life if they were exposed.
The radiation detector is small enough to fit in a person's wallet, yet accurate enough to tell if someone was exposed to a dirty bomb. The device changes colors with the darker shade indicating the more harmful expose. The amount of exposure can be vital for a doctor looking to treat someone.
J.P. Laboratories began making the device six years ago at the request of the military. Scientists believe the badges will be available to the public this summer for a price of $5.
