HUMIDITY/MOISTURE INDICATORS
Many pharmaceuticals, dried foods and other perishables, such as potato chips are sensitive to moisture/humidity. The shelf life decreases significantly if they are exposed to high humidity. Our humidity indicators undergo a color change with total exposure to moisture. Time required for the color change can be varied from a few minutes to a few weeks under normal ambient humidity.
UNIQUE FEATURES OF THE HUMIDITY INDICATORS
Applications
- Tamper indicator (if a bag of container is opened it will change color)
- Indicator for moisture sensitive foods, e.g., freeze dried foods, potato-cheeps and certain electronic components
- Pharmaceuticals
- Cigars and cigarettes
Color
- Irreversible color change, e.g., Blue-to-red
- Changes color upon certain exposure to humidity
- No color change below certain level of humidity
Time required for the color change
- Almost instant (e.g., seconds) in humid day of summer
- Time required for the color change can be varied (e.g., from minutes to days)
Temperature
- Temperature for the color change can be varied (e.g., +50 to –0oC)
- Can be designed to change color over a certain temperature range
- No color change below predetermined temperature
Preparation/Manufacturing
- Easy to make (a simple coating on a substrate)
- Commercially available equipment can be used to manufacture
Simplicity
- Single coating/layer thin device
- Can be prepared in form of labels
